For IP owners, the first step in constructing barriers to protect trademarks and copyrights is to register with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or United States Copyright Office. Thereafter, clients must watch for possible infringements and take action through the Courts or through the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) to protect the IP.
